How Cubans are navigating the US oil blockade with rechargeable fans and solar-powered Chinese tricycles | CNN cross-posted from: lemmy.ml/post/52357579 Sept. 5, 2026 How to conserve cellphone battery when recharging options are scarce; how to preserve food when the fridge isn’t working; how to cope with the heat when air-conditioners aren’t an option; how to generate power when the whole country has almost none left. These are the sort of tutorials that have made the Instagram feed of influencer Dayán Marrero indispensable to many Cubans as they try to adapt to the rolling electricity blackouts and fuel shortages that are increasingly part of everyday life… As the #US-imposed #oil #blockade that is worsening the situation bites ever deeper, Marrero and his compatriots are having to get creative. Farmers pasteurize milk over charcoal fires; commuters ride solar-powered Chinese tricycles; tour guides grind coffee by hand…

Their videos can be found at: https://peertube.world/c/cuba_botb_videos/videos] The #Trump administration is touting a $100 million aid package for Cuba, most of which is being distributed by #CatholicChurch charities. But the aid is a drop in the bucket compared to the damage caused by #US# sanctions and an #oil #blockade that has plunged the country into a humanitarian crisis. In our latest video, Belly of the Beast journalist Yohan Rodríguez reports from Bejucal, a town on the outskirts of Havana, where residents welcomed the food kits but questioned the policies that made the aid necessary. #NoWarOnCuba #USHandsOffCuba #OilForCuba! #CubaIsNotAlone #EndTheBlockadeEmbargo #CubaSolidarity #LetCubaLive #EndSanctionsAgainstCuba #OffTheList #CubaNoEstáSola #SolidaridadConCuba #PetróleoParaCuba #LatinAmerica #Caribbean #politics #USpol

Video - U.S. Lawmakers Challenge Trump’s Claims About Cuba After Visiting the Island https://peertube.world/w/ru66TuzjNGXDtVQP2rVMPp Duration - 20:10 [a #video on #Peertube about #Cuba from the #news collective #BellyOfTheBeast] US lawmakers Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI), Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández (D-NM), and Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL) gave an exclusive interview to BotB during their recent visit to Havana. Their trip to Cuba comes as the #Trump administration ramps up its #oil #blockade and economic war on the island, which it has justified by claiming that Cuba poses a threat to #US national security. After meeting with doctors, farmers, entrepreneurs, diplomats and ordinary Cubans, the lawmakers accused Donald Trump and #MarcoRubio of pushing a “false narrative.” “Walking through a #hospital that is dark and empty because we've cut off energy, we’ve cut off fuel,” said Leger Fernández. “Why would Americans support that?” #USHandsOffCuba #OilForCuba #EndTheBlockadeEmbargo #politics #USpol

#Trump said Monday that he was reinstating the #US naval #blockade on #Iran ports, just over 3 weeks after ending a monthslong blockade. Trump added that the US would begin charging #fees on ships transiting through the #StraitOfHormuz, claiming the US would levy a 20% fee “for any & all costs necessary” without elaborating on how it would work. In the social media post, he said the reinstated blockade would prevent “Iran’s ships or customers from entering or leaving.”

But blackouts caused by the US #oil #blockade are leaving doctors, nurses and their patients in the dark. Even as the Trump administration wages economic war on Cuba, people in the United States are stepping up to help sustain the island's beleaguered healthcare by bringing solar power to its maternity homes.

#Bundesregierung #Exekutive #Bundestag #Legislative #Solarboom #EEG #Blockadehttps://www.t-online.de/finanzen/energie/id_101320308/eeg-foerderung-wird-abgeschafft-das-kostet-das-ende-der-einspeiseverguetung.html
