hello @dansup@mastodon.social thank you for your #Columnly project; i only chanced upon it today but already think it is simply fantastic! 🥳. could you pls help me understand a few things with it?
i read in https://columnly.social/ that one option is "Live, without the jumps; New posts stream in and wait behind a "Show new posts" bar until you want them, so what you're reading never moves"
but so far i can't seem to make it work that way. regardless of me enabling or disabling Add new posts to columns as they arrive in Settings, my various timelines still auto-update when they receive new content, without doing as that quote says. clearly i'm doing it wrong, so... help, pls?
in the messages section, how do i actually mark them as read, to then clear the red counter badge from the icon in the sidebar? i had assumed it would be as simple as manually viewing each "unread" one, but that does not seem to help.
Phanpy, Statuzer & Masto itself each let the user view their newly posted item in a dedicated mode [ie, separate to the generic timeline columns], which allows one to quickly identify typos or formatting etc errors not noticed before sending. does Columnly also have something like this?
is there an option for new Notifications to remain "new" until manually clearing them? eg like how Masto & Statuzer provide a sticky visual reminder that persists til the user manually acknowledges them?
atm i am struggling to make the dot-points work the way i am used to in my other three UIs
your project is a very exciting addition to fedi clients, after other lovely ones like #Statuzer & #Phanpy. thank you for gifting us with it 🤩

in my own case, fwiw, of the three i listed, the one at greatest risk of me backsliding, is The Fox... i have tried several times over the years to give up
, & ofc all those attempts failed, coz... i love its icon, & i love getting the bugfixes & new features faster!
...aaaaaaaaand so it has come to pass... i have jumped back to
this morning! 🙄🤦♀️
it's just been bugging me continually over these days since my OP, how it could be that my primary Nightly profile could have suddenly changed, with one routine update several days before my OP, from being great to being shit [as judged by its performance on my primary fediverse tab; #Phanpy]. i then kept waiting for subsequent bi-daily updates to fix this "obvious" bug the Devs "had introduced" with that specific version, but update after update my Phanpy tab remained unusable [scrolling had become agonising, feeling like it was trying to move thu cold treacle, with attendant high cpu%]. neither regular
nor
suffered this problem [but then again, neither had Nightly, until That One Update].
so coz i'm stubborn & silly, i just could not leave this puzzle unsolved. this morn after many hours investigating, i finally solved it, afaict... for years, Nightly on my pooter has run better when i disable its default settings of Use recommended performance settings, and associated Use hardware acceleration when available [i have no dedicated gpu, only the integrated Intel graphics]. i've run that way so long i'd forgotten about it. this morn i discovered that the Phanpy treacle problem simply vanishes entirely, if i return those settings to default. so, it seems the Devs made some internal change with That One Update, with which my specific departure from default, formerly as asset, became a liability. d'oh! 😲 🤯

snac2 + phanpy is an awesome combination! #phanpy works perfectly with #snac2 and phanpy can even be used as a PWA on iOS. Nice!
If you want to give phanpy a try, I run an instance of it here.

@globalc@chaos.social I mainly am “By change + Notify”, but there are some days that I wish to catch up and thankfully #Phanpy has the catch-up feature so I can easily see what I have missed in the last 12 hours.
thinking about following #phanpy and using like instead of favourite
I am probably the last person on the #fediverse to use #phanpy, but this is a good Mastodon Web Client! Well done @phanpy@hachyderm.io !

I have realized that #Phandroid so far used the wrong upstream-branch.
I have used this finding to change the way releases are handled. There are now 2 release channels:
- Manually tested standard releases (Phandroid, using the stable production-branch of #Phanpy)
- fully automatic dev-Releases (Phandroid Dev, main-branch)
If you do nothing, the setup will continue to provide you with stable releases, just less frequently. Optionally you can install Dev (side-by-side, dedicated settings).

My app of choice for #mastodon is #phanpy. I am not sure whether other apps share its catch up feature. It looks like it should be useful but I have never found my way around it. Have others? #fediverse

@hollie@social.coop #phanpy is really awesome!
The #CatchUp feature is it's "killer app". I really like it's UI as well.
Posting from phanpy.social for the first time, I really like it! It's a website that lets you read and post to the Fediverse. My favorite iOS app, Toot!, may not be around forever and I've never found a solution I liked as much. But this might just be it. I'm especially liking the view where you can see what the folks you're following have posted in the last hour, and you can filter out boosts and only see their original posts. The ease of accessing lists is nice too.
I was curious what it's like to post photos from the site, so here's Cal last night, sitting on a bag for some reason. Such a goofball. If he fits, he sits. The alt description field in Phanpy is big and easy to use, I like it a lot, and the image was easy to upload.
