It's time for a retrocomputing and small web revival. And I mean hardware, software, the Internet.
All of it.
I love my fiber Internet connection but would gladly give it up to go back to when computing was actually fun and we didn't have to worry about what we're worrying about in today's world.
Yes, I'm old, but I've never been more serious.

In case you didn’t know:
Because of all the AI stuff markdown content negotiation becomes slowly mainstream.
So if you call a website and you only accept markdown as format, the server will answer in markdown!
I absolutely cannot wait until the first browser will provide a “markdown first” mode in which your browser shows the markdown page first!
(Also isn’t it funny that IT people have begged for such a thing for decades and now that AI cannot handle all the bloat on websites they all scramble to get it done?)

An #introduction since I now took the final step on moving to vildt.net - An effort of exploring self-hosting, digital commune and decentralized and federated web services that I have ignorantly started. If possible, any of my online (public) presence will come from here - I will tell you more about this soon <3
Based in Copenhagen, I daytime at Flashbulb Games and work mostly on on-premise and in-house solutions. I am deeply entranced in the tech work - doing my best not to get attached to shiny things, but at the moment obsessed with #LoRa, #SmallWeb, exploring new internet media,
Giving and sharing is big part of my identity; I help at a local bike coop. Previously hosted Nordic Game Jam for a few years. Participate in local workshops and events in above mentioned.
My remaining ambitions of 2026 involves:
Making Zines on #Reticulum and #dumbphones
Creating identity for vildt.net
Searching for people who likes to explore above mentioned topics (please reach out!)

@tiefling@bardicperspiration.club @DaimonRainbow@bardicperspiration.club I think that is why sites like Neocities exist (where op is hosting their blog, and this article).

Pitäisi kyllä ihan tosissaan miettiä näiden löytämiseen jotain systeemiä.

Just read a toot regarding the web back in the 1990's, when it was static and you could happily write markdown in a text editor. I still have my books on DHTML, HTML 5, CSS 3 etc.
This has given me an idea (not that I need anymore of those right now), I'm looking to move out of finance into writing or creating physical items, which is going to be a slow and hard process, might not even work. But I like the idea of building myself a static website to complement this and maybe as a platform to sell. It would mean I would still be using my technical skills.
Did a quick search and am seeing things like Ecwid can be used as a plugin, but have no idea if this would be trying to do too much myself as I haven't even got close to e-commerce before. I don't want to go anywhere near Etsy, Shopify, Wix or the like.
Whatever I do I need to balance this with my mental health but this has provided a spark I have been missing for quite a few years so would like to dig further into this if I can. Just looking for a more sustainable way forward for the next how many years on our shared planet and that is better for my mind.

In an ongoing fight to become less of a slob, I'm going to scale down social media usage. But it's still nice to have something to read every now and then. So reply here with your blog!

Happy HTML Day!
Maybe you don’t have time to write a whole HTML document today. That’s ok. Let’s write the HTML for a link! Link to your website or any website you want.

No billionaire upstairs deciding which of you counts as a demographic. No data broker rifling your grief for resale. No ghoul in a quarter-zip optimizing my sentences for engagement.
Just readers who pay. That's the whole damn machine — and it means the only thing I have to be loyal to is whether the number checks out.

In the spirit of the "small web" I want to move off of wordpress for my website.
But I've so many posts and media and migrations have never been a straight forward thing when Ive attempted in the past.
Ive not much time at the moment but would love to move to a website system more inline with my own beliefs :(
ideas welcome lol.

Hey folks, can you help me out with a little something: trying to come up with a good number of files limit for a file scan (for Kitten so you don’t hit heap memory limits if you run it from the wrong directory by mistake) and I’d love some statistics from real JavaScript/TypeScript Node.js projects of the number of files in them (excluding .git and node_modules).
Would you be kind enough to run the following command in Terminal in your largest projects and let me know what number your get (along with a short description of the project):
find . \( -name "node_modules" -o -name ".git" \) -prune -o -print | wc -l
Thank you :)
