I've closed down my Etsy shop! To celebrate, I'm having a 25% off sale on Fybe, itch.io, and my Patreon shops! The sale is on from Nov 2nd - 4th! That was a lot of exclamation marks, but I'm pretty excited to no longer be on Etsy. RE: https://tech.lgbt/@Natasha_Jay/117382397216266564 that’s why #NASA hired teams of #embroidery #knitting #beading #fiberArts experts who all so happened to be not just women but mostly Native American, African American and Latinas. they were nicknamed the Little Old Ladies and without them there would be no Apollo program. they won't even teach you in school that the LOLs were preceded by women who ―if they wanted a chance to enter college, a privilege only for men― they did so by being computers (mathematicians) for “real” scientists. 🧵…

Whoa. The silk dress took 14+ years to complete. Worked on by 380 embroiderers from 51 countries who contributed an estimated billion and a half stitches. "They included female refugees from Palestine, Syria and Ukraine, women seeking asylum in the UK from Iran, Iraq, China, Nigeria and Namibia, survivors of war in Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Rwanda and impoverished and disadvantaged women in South Africa, Mexico and Egypt." https://www.positive.news/society/the-world-in-a-dress-the-project-with-1-5-billion-stitches/ #embroidery

Since I wanted to elevate my knee yesterday I sat to watch the Detroit Tigers win and caught up on my embroidery project. As I promised a towel to a Mastodon friend it felt like an opportunity to sit and sew without feeling guilty for everything that wasn't getting done. This will be the first of a set of two. Sewing makes me almost as relaxed as baking and I consume less calories. Feels like a win. #Embroidery #Sewing

Ok. Before I keep going, I thought I'd share my hack for creating a light box for tracing embroidery patterns (or whatever floats your boat). I have a glass baking dish with a cover, so I trap a light source in the dish - a phone flashlight or a battery powered dome light would work better than the flashlight - flip it upside down, and trace away. Before this, I was taping paper and cloth to a window during the day. Using the pan is much more comfortable. #embroidery
