Free, hands-on tech workshops are coming to the Chicago Public Library this November and December at the Uptown and Mayfair branches. We have two workshops for building and publishing your first web page and an introductory class on AI literacy + safety. No prior programming experience required; bring your curiosity (and a laptop if you have one, though library access is available). RSVP here: https://linktr.ee/codingkinetics #Chicago #tech #learntocode #community #library #introduction #ai #webdev

#library holds are fucking metal, what do you mean I click a little button that says "yes I would like to read this book" and then little trucks drive all around my city so I can pick up said book at a convenient location close to me??? I am reminded of "if libraries didn't already exist, there's no way we'd get them today". WE MUST PROTECT THEM AT ALL COSTS

On the Christchurch City Libraries’ Flickr page is this photo of a kids’ voting booth set up at the Linwood library. This will be near to the real election booths for adults. The kids get to select their top pet candidate. The candidates range from the more centrist cat and dog representatives to the ant farm and axolotl minor parties. Choose wisely. 😀 https://flic.kr/p/2sKTBKE #NZelection #election #Flickr #Christchurch #ChristchurchCityLibraries #library

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social If there's one thing The Fedi has given me, it's an appreciation for libraries. Yes, I used them when I had much less income than now, but it was really only when many people from the Fedi pointed out how awesome libraries are that I really came to appreciate the no-cost, no-commercial interest sharing of knowledge and culture and sometimes skills and tools with anyone who lives nearby or visits. Thank you librarians and Fedizens. ❤️ #Library #Librarians #Fedi #Fediverse

Probably good to have an #introduction of sorts. Hello there! I run a small organisation (of one) which designs and writes puzzle and treasure hunts and hides them in books in exchange for joy and dopamine. I also design and make the treasures, occasionally with support from actual craft experts. I also maintain a small #library of armchair treasure hunts, text games, Ergodic literature, other unusual books which is growing all the time. On top of that, I spend a lot of time researching the above and maintaining a permanent #archive of these things to support my creative process. I have a small #garden that I spend a lot of time in, making sure there’s pretty flowers and the occasional food to eat. It is trying to be a wildlife haven. Other important things in my life: good music, damn fine coffee, FOSS / open source, libraries, twin peaks, #retrogames, books books books, exploring the UK wilds and hiking, woodworking, finding out interesting historical things.

False claims of illegal obscenity for minors, inclusion of #LGBTQIA+ characters or themes, & covering topics of #race, #racism, #equity, & #socialjustice are the common justifications for #censorship of a #library book. Today’s the start of #BannedBooksWeek. Check out this year’s Top 11 Most Challenged #Books at https://bannedbooksweek.org/ And if you choose to buy one of them, please consider bookshop.org instead of Amazon. They support local bookshops near you: https://bookshop.org/

My old city library, when people are standing outside waiting for the doors to open: it’s 8.59, we don’t open till 9, but I suppose we’ll open the door a minute early this one time. (Me: I’m your volunteer for delivering books to people who can’t get here — oh, boy did he look shamefaced when he realised he’d told off a volunteer 😂) My country library, when people are standing outside waiting: it’s 9.55, so sorry that we don’t open till 10, come in out of the wind #library

"In Gaza, in the rubble of an active genocide and through 13 displacements, Omar Hamad has built the Phoenix Library. Books were passed hand to hand through rubble, preserved across each forced relocation and carried when almost nothing could be carried and when others were reduced to burning their books for cooking fuel. Gaza’s first library since the genocide began – built not after, not in the aftermath, not when it was safe – but during." #Gaza #Library #Books #OmarHamad 1/2

Libraries are primarily famous for free books, but they can do even more for people interested in learning new skills. Here’s how you can use your local library for career development opportunities... https://action.everylibrary.org/career_explorations_at_the_library#library #libraries #read #reading #book #books #librarianship #lit

Hi fiber people! My mom saw a cool idea on a fiber arts newsletter and would like to pursue it with a friend, but the only place the newsletter linked to was Instagram, and my mom won't use Instagram. So I'm asking here on her behalf: does anyone have any links where she could see examples/stories of people making Little Free Fiber Libraries? (Like Little Free Libraries, but for fiber arts.) Links/personal experience/boosts appreciated! #AskFedi #knitting #FiberArts #Library
